“HISTORIC PHOTOS OF BATON ROUGE”

A BOOK REVIEW[The book titled “Historic Photos of Baton Rouge” shall henceforth be referred to as 'the book'.]
The photos of 'the book' of the various photographers are, I assume, were taken with camera's of cutting-edge technology of the day (period); varying somewhat upon the expertise or inexperience of the photographers, assuming some were not professionals like Andrew Lytle a well established Baton Rouge professional photographer which had a studio on 4th Street (formerly, in his day, was called "Church Street"); I find that the photos are extremely well preserved, some of which, are well over one hundred years old.
The captions of the book by Mr. Martin are very well versed upon his research into 'ancient' archival files.
Some of the 19th century photos are real treasures that reveal what early Baton Rouge was like when cotton was king and when brothers fought brothers during the Civil War. The photos of the latter half of the 20th century refresh the memories of us native Baton Rougeans who grew up in those era's.
Mr. Mark E. Martin did the digging into the archives (of text and photo's) and now we the readers can sit back and enjoy the fruit of his work.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the rich historic past of this port city – Baton Rouge, especially those who grew up here during the fifty's, as I did, and has heard stories passed down from their elders.
